In 2025, Rainbow helped Kronospan to create its first London showroom, encapsulating their story “Seed to Surface”.

The Brief

Kronospan is an international manufacturer of wood-based panels and decorative surfaces. In 2025, the company set out to create its first London showroom – a material-led, highly experiential Design Centre in the heart of Clerkenwell. The vision, developed with architects HUT, was to spotlight Kronospan’s complete product ecosystem and build on the “Seed to Surface” narrative, representing their vertically integrated manufacturing process.

Rainbow’s furniture package needed to support this story while providing flexible settings for meetings, workshops, collaboration and product specification. Locally based furniture brands were prioritised to help create a community-focused space connected to its Clerkenwell surroundings.

The showroom also, crucially, needed to be completed in time for its launch during Clerkenwell Design Week 2025.

The Solution

Working within HUT Architecture’s wider design concept, Rainbow developed a furniture package that integrated with the showroom experience rather than simply furnishing the space.

Every applicable hard surface procured by Rainbow was finished in a Kronospan laminate instead of standard finishes. This allowed tables and other furniture elements to demonstrate Kronospan products in use, transforming the showroom into an interactive specification environment.

Rainbow coordinated the supply of free-issued Kronospan laminates, working closely with the manufacturers to create bespoke furniture solutions that complemented the wider material palette.

The manufacturers selected for the project also demonstrated strong approaches to environmental management, responsible material selection and product longevity. This supported Kronospan’s sustainability ambitions and the circular principles expressed throughout the wider showroom design.

All new timber products in the project are manufactured from recycled wood waste and manufactured and supplied by Kronospan, from floor structure to wall linings; kitchen surfaces to the exterior building cladding. The resulting furniture package provided flexible settings for meetings, collaborative working, design development, workshops and client engagement.

Summary

Working within an active site environment, Rainbow collaborated closely with HUT, Kronospan, OD Interiors and the wider project team to coordinate the furniture delivery and installation around their ambitious launch programme.

The Design Centre opened on time for Clerkenwell Design Week 2025, providing Kronospan with a highly functional, material-led showroom where visitors can experience its products first-hand.

The furniture supports the wider “Seed to Surface” narrative and helps make the Design Centre a destination where inspiration, specification, collaboration and product application come together.
